THE USE OF HANGMAN, ANOTHER OPTION OF INTERACTIVE GAMES

Hangman has always been a fun and a popular game, and it has been played by dozens of students at school. Although hangman may seem plain and simple, it is a useful tool for teaching and learning. In fact, teachers can make use of this game to practice the four skills--listening, speaking, reading, and writing. As well, students can improve vocabulary, spelling, pronunciation. Just imagine, you (students and teachers) have a wide range of possibilities!!!

In my teaching experience, I have used hangman (the regular way to play it) with the students that I had been assigned and the ones that I currently have. Students play it while having fun, so that their reaction to the game is positive. Thus, they get engaged in the activity being performed.

This is the reason why I choose Hangman as the third game for this entry. I thought it would be interesting to look for the interactive version. The game was downloaded from www.eslgamesworld.com

Moreover, even though I have never used the interactive version, I want to implement the interactive version with my students. Thus, this is the second reason for selecting Hangman. I would think about fourth grade level and the corresponding topic. This time my intention would be to practice spelling, so as to set the path to writing in further tasks. Then the students would work in two big groups. Each team has its turn to play and spell the word.

It is relevant to mention that each teacher has his or her own variation to use this game in class. You are invited to provide different variations of Hangman in order to contribute to the improvement of this entry.

  1. Alejandra let me tell you that your topic is so important and interesting for an English class. As a teacher, I couldn't imagine a class without a game or a contest among my students. Hang man is a great tool to make them practice vocabulary and spelling in a funny way; I used to play it with my beginner students who enjoy it so much.

I want to thank you for the effort that you make in your research about this topic; the website that you recomend is great and provides teachers with different formulas about games in class. But, I believe that you must improve this Blog in order to make it more interactive. For example: you can provide a list of scramble words related to a topic; or you can write ten words with missing letters. In this way you capture your students' attention and they would like to solve the trick.
Another idea that I have is that you can show a scramble paragraph in order that your students try to organize it; also, a short story with pictures.
Any way, thank you; your topic allows me to review different games to play with my students. :)
